Diabetes MODY (Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young) is a rare form of diabetes that is caused by a genetic mutation. It typically develops before the age of 25 and often runs in families.


Types

1. HNF1 – alpha: It causes Diabetes by lowering the amount of insulin made by the pancreas and causes about 70% of cases of MODY.

2. HNF4 – alpha: People with this gene have a birth weight of 4kg and may also have low blood sugar at or soon after birth which requires treatment. This type is not as common as other forms of MODY.

3. HNF1 – beta: People with this type of MODY can have numerous problems that include renal cysts, uterine abnormalities, gout, and diabetes.
